Subscribers! Hello! Today’s edition is extremely short but sent with sweetness, largely because I have a lot going on this week in the non-BYI world, and need to keep things peaceful and easy.
One week from today:
Summer vibes, even though it’s not summer;
Far Mar Superstars;
Without labor, we’re nothing;
Comments by postcard;
1970s + east central Illinois + poetry = heart eyes emoji;
…and I’m hoping to be able to deliver an audio version of this to you, alongside the “print” version, by then.
In the meantime, in these times: Find beauty—and let it find you—wherever possible. For me, it’s been the bumble bees in the creeping Charlie, the sturdiness of the garlic’s leaves, the sun shooting through the petals of the yellow irises at golden hour, birdsong at 4:08 AM (really), and hearing about the deer, unbothered, crossing people’s paths at the prairie preserve.
Let me know, in the comments, where you find each other.
Down Time
The rabbits. Bunnies are everywhere when I walk around. They hop and stop, stare at me and wiggle their ears. I want to invite them back to my music room and play songs for them by Frightened Rabbit and Echo & the Bunnymen. I'm pretty sure they would hop all around the room with me.
Volunteering to make that Friday 5:30am delivery to the airport because the sun rises over the flat farmland at 5:45, usually a spectacular display. On my way there and back I listen to that day's new music. I drive around a silent, seemingly uninhabited campus. Windows down.
