Omg. I, too, am moved to action by your post. Been curious about AW for a few years now, have idly looked for it when I’m in a used bookstore. After reading what you had to say, it seems It’s Time — just ordered a copy.
Funny you mention the AW because I have two copies of the AW book/morning journal/Right Stuff (2x of each, I don't know why? I think one set was supposed to be a gift to someone else?) They stare at me from the bookshelf across from my desk. I have had them forever after hearing of them waaay back decades ago when I learned I worked with Julia Cameron's sister who was a writer at Ogilvy. Anyway, all this to say, the other day the NYT or some other news sources mentioned the AW as something to help with writing and mental health and NOW YOU SHARE YOUR TESTIMONY!?! I think it's a sign I need to finally give this a try. And, I just have to say, that you ever doubt your massive writing talents just kills me -- I feel like that kind of fretting is for hacks like me! :)
I’ve been through it twice, also in discomfort. First time over ten years ago and the second two years ago…several shorter stints. I’ve felt good, bad and indifferent about it to varying degrees throughout them all.
Beautiful! I love that you followed the Reckoning thread so deeply without turning to the online suck. AW continues to make the cut here, too. Always will? Maybe? I’ve only done it once I think in 1995. Pretty sure I finished, but my memory is very broken. I consider doing it again but am also like bish just write every day enough already. 💗

I very much support this endeavor! Dig deep! Make art!

I think that's exactly it. It can't all be epiphanies and it can't all suck and it's not a checklist. <3

I write so damn much too! Something about not mining it instantly feels really good this time. <3
I don't know this book but I do know this mindset, intimately. Time to check out this book. Thank you!
